What do you see when you look in the mirror? In this fantasy book and book cover, the mirror is one built on wishes and magic, and it’s not always your reflection that stares back at you. Sharing aesthetics with Divine Rivals, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Coraline, this story follows Ava as she tries to uncover the secrets of a magical mirror that has dictated the fate of her city for centuries. What does she see when she looks in? What happens when it breaks?
For the cover, I wanted to play a lot with the idea of gilded vs. golden as well as the many intricacies of the story itself. Featuring Ava, some of the setting, a golden lion, and, of course, a mirror, the book cover has almost everything covered in gold.
This cover is for a story that I’m in the process of writing while also editing the text for one of my older works. It’s been a great cleanser; allowing me to still feel creative while most of my writing has been primarily editing.
